Welcome to the Post-Disaster Redevelopment Planning website – a resource site for communities interested in preparing a Post-Disaster Redevelopment Plan (PDRP).  On this site you will find helpful case studies, recovery topics, and detailed guidance on developing PDRPs.
Many counties and municipalities have become very adept at coordinating response and short‐term recovery after a disaster.  Long‐term redevelopment, however, is often not as well developed in most communities.  Without being prepared for the complexity of redevelopment in a compressed timeframe following a major disaster, local officials may struggle with recovery decisions and miss opportunities for public participation in reshaping the community’s future. To become more disaster‐resilient, local governments should plan for what must happen after rescue and recovery operations have finished in order to return the community to normalcy or perhaps rebuild an even better community. Through the development of a Post-Disaster Redevelopment Plan, local governments can create a long‐term recovery and redevelopment strategy to implement during the pre‐ and post‐disaster periods in pursuit of a sustainable community.
